After the "New Millennium" arrived during the changeover from 1999 to the year 2000, many people made such comments as — Nothing happened! Whatever happened to Y2K? I thought everything was supposed to come to a grinding halt?
Well, not only did Y2K really happen, but it isn't completely over yet!
And, problems did occur. There were power outages, computer glitches, and service interruptions worldwide in the weeks and even months immediately following the changeover from 1999 to the year 2000. However, those problems were not wider spread exactly because of the efforts that were made in the months and years prior to get ready for Y2K. That was the whole point, to correct the problem before the year 2000 so that when it arrived there wouldn't be a problem! While some were forecasting "doom and gloom" scenarios, most industry experts more sensibly and realistically advised preparedness and caution in anticipation of some potential problems. And, while it was entirely true that no one would really know what happened until Y2K had passed, most felt that the problem would be adequately addressed in time to avoid any major catastrophes. Y2K did indeed really happen, but perhaps in a way that was simply too anti-climactic for some who were expecting more!
